Sea Cloud Cruises of Hamburg, Germany is rapidly expanding worldwide operations in the luxury cruise market, anchored by the world's most elegant and historic sailing ship currently in passenger service. The 360-foot long, four-masted barque SV Sea Cloud was once the personal property of cereal heiress Majorie Merriweather Post, whose husband, investment broker E. F. Hutton, built it for her in 1931. Under her command, the ship became an international venue for royalty, heads of state and captains of industry. The illustrious yacht slipped into less glamorous - if more adventurous - duty later, including weather observation during World War II, and in 1980 it was resurrected as a special interest charter ship. The ship emerged from a major drydocking operation in Venice in 1988, and underwent an extensive modernization costing several million German marks in 1993, which included her 34 cabins, air conditioning, luxurious public areas, rigging, radar and satellite navigation systems. A German shipping investment group, Hansa Treuhand, took over the majority of shares in Sea Cloud Cruises in 1994. Sea Cloud's ships attract an upscale, sophisticated brand of passenger interested in sailing, history, art and other cultural aspects of the line's itineraries, as well as warm-weather activities on Caribbean cruises. Most are professionals, many retired, and there are few children found on board.

When 'Sea Cloud' was launched in 1931, she was unique. Built by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and her husband, financier E. F. Hutton, 'Sea Cloud' was the biggest and most beautiful sailing yacht ever commissioned by a private person, a magnet for royalty, heads of state and movie stars. Even today, there is still no ship that rivals 'Sea Cloud' for her unique elegance, comfort and old-fashioned graciousness.

For the lucky few who will sail aboard her this year, 'Sea Cloud' offers an opportunity to sample all the romance and pleasure of "the sweet life" under 34,000 yards of billowing sail. 'Sea Cloud' follows the sun, skimming the warm waters of the Caribbean in February and sailing the Aegean, Ionian, Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian seas in May, June and September. Wherever she travels, her guests can expect haute cuisine, elegant accommodations and a taste of an unrivaled lifestyle.

Customized travel at the ultimate level – that is the idea behind Sea Cloud Cruises. What began in 1979 with the legendary private yacht Sea Cloud has been consistently refined overthe past years. Today guests can reach the most exotic destinations in Europe and the Caribbean aboard two imposing tall ships and two luxurious river cruise vessels, all in a wonderfully relaxed and casual atmosphere in which first-class chefs create culinary highlights. Sea Cloud Cruises adds a second sail ship to it's fleet when a new-built is christened Sea Cloud II on February 6, 2001. Another new-built sail ship joined the fleet in 2010 - Sea Cloud Hussar. Currently she is the biggest hand-sailed ship in the world.
